La Morena cider, from the cider mill of the same name in Viella (Siero), is the winner of the 2025 Best First Cider of the Year Competition, thus becoming the official cider of this year’s First Cider of the Year.
Tens of thousands of liters of cider from more than forty cider mills await you at the First Cider of the Year… but one in particular will be our favorite this year, having been recognized by our expert panel of judges as the Best First Cider of the Year, that is, the highest quality cider of this harvest.
The selection was made from among all the ciders submitted during a double day of blind tastings open to the public at the La Montera Picona Cider House in Ramón. Six finalists advanced to the second round: Germán, La Morena, Piñera, Prau Monga, Huerces, and Cabueñes. Among them, the one that obtained the highest score in the final was La Morena, followed by Prau Monga, from the Viuda de Angelón cider mill (Nava) and Cabueñes (Xixón).
